R5 has only one goal: get to the top fast. But for any fanfare arrival at a hill climb, it's rarely the only ascent of the day. And while you usually don't win a race downhill, you can certainly lose it. A mountain bike that can't handle a hairpin turn is like a decaf coffee. This is the fourth version of the R5, and although its weight and stiffness have varied over the years, its handling, control, and unparalleled downhill prowess have remained unchanged since day one.
FASTER, NO MATTER THE DIRECTION
The new R5 frame is 130g lighter than the previous model, a 16% reduction from an already lightweight frame. While aerodynamics isn't as high a priority for this frame as it is for an S5 or P5, routing the cables internally has reduced drag by 25g.
DARKER THAN NIGHT, LIGHTER THAN AIR
Although black absorbs all light, the Cervélo Five Black is anything but heavy. This minimal color and graphic package results in a frame that is significantly lighter—others won't even see you coming.
LESS STIFF, FASTER
The R5 is stiff, but not too stiff. Ideal for a climber, if you will. The balance, stability, and power transfer are perfect and keep you fresh and ready to tackle the road.
